Compliance & Due Diligence

Know who you are dealing with, before you sign or pay.

Compliance consulting and due diligence for companies doing business between the US and Turkiye: checks on Turkish counterparties, sanctions screening and anti-money-laundering (AML) support for cross-border transactions.

Who it's for

Companies with money, goods or data crossing the border.

US companies about to sign with a Turkish supplier, distributor or partner, and Turkish companies that need to answer the compliance questions of US banks and customers.

It also suits financial, payments and digital-asset businesses, where sanctions and AML expectations are high and a counterparty's ownership or location can change the risk of a deal.

Public Turkish records answer some questions and leave others open. We combine what is public, what the counterparty can provide and what screening shows, and tell you plainly what remains unknown.

What we help with

Three ways we help.

Turkish counterparty checks

  • Registry and Trade Registry Gazette review
  • Who can sign, and who appears to own and control the company
  • Signs of financial distress, such as konkordato or bankruptcy notices
  • A clear written summary of findings and open points

Sanctions & AML screening

  • Screening of companies, directors, owners and signatories against major sanctions lists
  • Red flags in ownership, payment routes and geography
  • Screening support for financial and digital-asset businesses
  • Periodic re-screening for ongoing relationships

Compliance support

  • Risk reviews for cross-border transactions
  • Know-your-customer and onboarding documentation
  • Policies and training for teams working across both markets
  • Turkish-law questions, such as MASAK and KVKK, handled by Sonmez Partners

How we work

From question to decision.

  1. Scope

We agree who is being checked, why, and how deep the review should go.

  2. Research

Turkish registries, documents from the counterparty and sanctions screening.

  3. Report

A written summary of findings, red flags and open questions.

  4. Monitor

Re-screening and updates for relationships that continue.

Good to know

Due diligence reduces risk; it cannot remove it.

Some Turkish records, such as court files and beneficial-ownership filings, are not public. We are clear about what was checked and what could not be. Decisions under US law, including US sanctions obligations, rest with you and your US counsel.

Questions

Good to know before we talk

What can you check about a Turkish company?

Registered details such as incorporation, capital, managers and announcements, plus documents the company provides, such as its signature circular and activity certificate, and sanctions screening of the company and the people behind it.

Which sanctions lists do you screen against?

We agree the lists with you at the start, typically including the US, EU, UK and UN lists that matter for the transaction.

Do you give legal advice on US sanctions or AML law?

No. Sonmez Consulting LLC is not a U.S. law firm. We provide screening, research and compliance consulting; decisions under US law rest with you and your US counsel. Turkish-law questions are handled by the Turkish attorneys at Sonmez Partners.

How long does a counterparty check take?

It depends on the scope and on how quickly the counterparty provides documents. We agree a timeline when we agree the scope.
