Buying property, opening a bank account or joining a company in Turkiye? Most of these start with a potential tax number (vergi numarası). If you already hold a foreign national ID number starting with 99, you generally don't need a separate one. Otherwise there are three routes: any tax office in person, your bank, or the online application on GİB's Digital Tax Office.

Why it matters
Many transactions start here.
A potential tax number (vergi numarası) is used for banking, property and company matters. Foreign shareholders and board members need one before a new company can open its bank account.
- 02
Check first
You may already have one.
If you hold a Turkish foreign national identification number (it starts with 99 and comes with a residence permit), you generally do not need a separate tax number.
- 03
Route 1 · Tax office
Apply in person at any tax office.
Bring a short petition with your address and a copy of your passport. The copy is notarized, or shown with the original so the office can certify it.
- 04
Route 2 · Your bank
Through a bank, for banking.
When you need the number for a bank account, the bank can request it for you using the tax authority's request form for foreigners.
- 05
Route 3 · Online
On the Digital Tax Office.
The tax authority (GİB) offers an online "Potential Tax Number Application for Foreigners" with your identity, passport and contact details.
