Getting your Turkish diploma ready for use abroad.

e-Devlet documents, the transcript, the apostille.

Turkiye → US Education

Applying to a school, an employer or an evaluation service abroad usually means proving your Turkish degree. Part of this can be done online through e-Devlet; the rest comes from your university's registrar and the governorship. Ask the receiving institution which documents it wants and in what form before you start.

  1. 01

    Online

    A barcoded graduation certificate.

The YÖK service on e-Devlet (Yükseköğretim Mezun Belgesi Sorgulama) shows your graduation record and produces a barcoded graduation certificate. Anyone can verify a barcoded e-Devlet document with its barcode or QR code.

  2. 02

    Online

    Transcripts in Turkish and English.

YÖK provides barcoded transcripts in Turkish and English for students enrolled on, or graduating after, 1 October 2020. Universities add older graduates' records as they can, so older graduates may need the registrar.

  3. 03

    The diploma

    Issued once, copied many times.

A diploma is issued only once. For other uses, ask the registrar (öğrenci işleri) for certified copies, or have a notary certify a copy. Many universities also issue official transcripts and graduation letters in English on request.

  4. 04

    Diploma Supplement

Ask for it if you never received it.

By the 2022–23 academic year at the latest, Turkish universities had to start issuing a Diploma Supplement free of charge with every diploma, in English, French or German. Older graduates may not have one; ask your registrar whether it can issue one.

  5. 05

    Lost diploma

    A replacement takes time.

Universities replace a lost diploma under their own rules, which usually include a published loss notice. The replacement is marked as a duplicate. Start early if you need the original.

  6. 06

    Apostille

    At the governorship, not online.

Diplomas are not among the documents covered by e-Apostil. Take the original, a certified copy or a notarized translation to a governorship (valilik) or district governorship (kaymakamlık), and confirm with the office which version it will apostille.

Good to know

Confirm with the receiving institution, your registrar and the governorship before you send anything.
